Showcasing “BEST PRACTICES” of Commodity Sector Developments: Leveraging Investments for the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)

On Tuesday 21 November we will be hosting the first day of our Annual Meeting of the Governing Council.

As part of our programme, a side event will be held from 15.30- 17.30 EST where we will discuss regarding the developments in the Commodity sector. This event serves as a platform for member countries to spotlight “best practices” of commodity sector development, share valuable insights, and discuss their future plans in the ever-evolving commodity sector.

The welcome address to commence the opening session will be given by H.E. Ms. Margaret Shava, the Ambassador of Kenya to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Opening Remarks shall be followed by a Feature Presentation on state-of-the-art science of potato production in Africa given by Dr. Peter Gildemacher, Executive Director of the Sepia Potato Foundation.

Project cases will be presented by Ms. Jane Maigua (Kenya), Mr. Md. Tauhid Bin Abdus Salam (Bangladesh), Ms. Beatrice Moulianitaki (Meridia), and Ms. Ruth Kinoti, CEO of Shalem (Kenya).

The event is designed with four primary objectives-

  • Firstly, the member countries will utilize the platform to spotlight their accomplishments in the commodity sector, emphasizing the transformative impact on local economies.
  • Secondly, the event aims to cultivate a sharing collaborative culture by facilitating knowledge exchange among member countries, recognizing its pivotal role in accelerating progress and collectively addressing challenges.
  • Thirdly, the discussions will centre around the crucial role of impact investments in steering the commodity sector towards sustainable development, exploring innovative approaches to catalyze positive change.
  • Lastly, a key focus will be on humanizing the value chains, with participants engaging in discussions to bridge the gap between the farm gate and the final price, thereby enhancing income for smallholders.

Overall, the event seeks to showcase achievements, foster collaboration, explore impactful investments, and humanize value chains for a more sustainable and equitable commodity sector.

All Governing Council meeting attendees, as well as delegates from member nations, business offices, industry stakeholders, and the media, are welcome to join the side event.
