Government of Peru endorses “Humanising Value Chains” pilot project by the CFC

Amsterdam / The Hague, July 16, 2025 — The Government of Peru has formally expressed its strong support for the proposed Humanising Value Chains (HVC) pilot project, a pioneering initiative led by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) under the leadership of Ambassador Sheikh Belal.

In an official note verbal issued by the Embassy of Peru in The Hague, the Government of Peru described the HVC initiative as a bold and innovative model that aligns with the country’s national priorities — including sustainable development, equitable trade, and improved livelihoods for smallholder farmers, producers, and workers.HVC_Peru

The endorsement has been issued following its approval  by both the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) and the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), highlighting the strategic relevance of the HVC concept to Peru’s trade and agricultural vision.

By integrating fairness, inclusivity, and sustainability principles into global value chains, the HVC model seeks to:

  • Unlock financial and non-financial resources for producers at the base of the pyramid
  • Foster digital innovation and Fourth Industrial Revolution applications
  • Promote linkages between large exporters and small producers
  • Leverage synergies with Peru’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) pilot
  • Align with the European Union’s Digital Product Passport initiative

The Government of Peru emphasized that the HVC pilot can strengthen the “Peru Brand” in global markets, especially where digital traceability and sustainability are key value drivers. The initiative is seen as a catalyst for boosting investor confidence, international cooperation, and export potential.

Peru is also actively identifying national brands aligned with the CFC’s humanising values, aiming to position them as pioneers in responsible, inclusive trade. The Embassy encourages governments, private actors, and international partners to engage in the pilot and join efforts to build more equitable value chains worldwide.
