A delegation from the Brazil’s Federal University of Goiás (UFG) visiting CFC

08 November 2024, Amsterdam.  A delegation from the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), Brazil, visited the CFC offices to explore areas of mutual interest and gain insights into the organization's operations. Led by Prof. Dr. Diego Trindade d'Ávila Magalhães, Assistant Professor of International Relations at UFG, the group included students and public sector professionals.

Amb. Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Managing Director of the CFC, welcomed the delegation alongside Mr. Ernesto Daza Lacouture, Impact Investment Manager.

The timing of this visit is particularly significant as the world eagerly awaits the activation of groundbreaking initiatives such as the Global Alliance for Hunger and Poverty and Brazilian President Lula's bold proposal for a two per cent tax on billionaires to create a more equitable world. The CFC strongly supports the Brazilian G20 Presidency's initiatives and shares their vision that urgent global action is needed to prevent the SDG 2030 goals from falling dramatically short of their targets. The current trajectory of these goals appears increasingly concerning, making such collaborative efforts all the more crucial.

An introductory presentation was given to provide the delegation with a better understanding of the history, mandate and works of the organization. Ambassador Belal highlighted several successful projects implemented by the CFC, expressing his hope that more such initiatives would be proposed in the future. He conveyed his optimism that UFG could play a role in encouraging and supporting the development of additional impactful projects.

This delegation of academics, students and practitioners provided a valuable opportunity not only to consolidate our thoughts but also to seek their support for CFC's initiatives aimed at humanizing value chains and restoring the dignity of over three billion smallholders worldwide. The CFC welcomes such delegations as they foster collaboration towards our shared goal of creating a world free from poverty and hunger.

The meeting concluded with mutual assurances of support and a commitment to follow up on necessary actions in the coming days.
