Coffee Planet – United Arab Emirates
Based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Coffee Planet LLC was established in 2005 as a provider of coffee solutions for convenience stores. In 2008, Coffee Planet opened a new UTZ-, BRC-, HACCP-, and ISO 22000-certified processing facility with a coffee roasting capacity of more than 4,320 MT per annum. This enabled the company to become the largest specialty coffee roaster in the Middle East, employing more than 200 people. As a certified roaster in the specialty coffee segment, the company’s business model focuses on providing end-to-end coffee solutions for a diverse range of local and international customers. The company also ensures full traceability and control throughout its value chain.
Currently, Coffee Planet provides a wide range of business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) coffee solutions, serving more than 800 local and international customers and operating over 5,000 coffee machines across the United Arab Emirates. The company has signed coffee bean and consumables supply agreements with several major blue-chip companies.
Coffee Planet follows an integrated value chain operating model (‘crop-to-cup’), which involves complete in-house management of the value chain, from the sourcing of coffee beans to the roasting and packaging of coffee products, and finally to the distribution of coffee, related consumables, and equipment, as well as staff training, machine servicing, and maintenance. The company’s business model is centred on delivering comprehensive coffee solutions to diverse local and international customers.
The investment was made with the expectation of expanding Coffee Planet’s sustainable sourcing model by increasing the number of impacted smallholder farmers from approximately 1,600 to more than 3,000, alongside a doubling of sustainably sourced coffee volumes. Employment was also projected to grow, with the total number of staff increasing to more than 200 and female representation strengthening significantly. In parallel, the company was expected to maintain high certification standards and enhance environmental performance through waste reduction initiatives, including scaling up the use of fully biodegradable coffee capsules.
