CFC's Managing Director meets Proprietor of Solagrow, Ethiopia

On June 24, the CFC Managing Director, Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal, received Mr. Jan van de Haar, a Dutch entrepreneur, who is now resident in Ethiopia and proprietor of the seed potato producing enterprise “Solagrow”.

A graduate of Wageningen University, Mr. van de Haar is now making best use of the Dutch sense for innovations in the rugged mountainous fields of Ethiopia where he moved with his family in 2007. Despite lots of vicissitudes, he remains committed to serve the people of his farm as his own siblings and would like them to walk out of poverty as soon as he can. It is because of his creative and enterprising work in a region where per hectare production of potatoes used to be only eight tons, that local smallholder farmers can now expect to take it to as high as 35 tons per harvest. It is not only the quantity that counts, environment friendly way of cultivation as well as food quality of this tuber crop is also something to be excited about. His work is essentially a page out of United Nations SDG framework, which CFC is working hard to promote and implement as it strives to alleviate people from poverty.

The CFC remains committed to be of service and supportive to enterprises like Solagrow and entrepreneurs like Mr. van de Haar who is not only working hard to bring high value innovations to Ethiopia, but also building bridges between people and culture.
