Ambassador of Rwanda visits CFC

Rwanda remains an inspiring story in the developing world. Managing Director Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal stated this as he received H.E. Mr. Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the Netherlands in the CFC Secretariat today.  H.E. Mr. Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe came to visit CFC for the first time to know more about the activities of the CFC and its impact on the ground.

His Excellency Nduhungirehe was accompanied by Mr. Herbert Ndahiro, First Secretary at the Embassy. Ambassador Belal was accompanied by Ms. Sonja Timmer, Project Manager, and for the discussion on the Commodity Investment Impact Fund (CIIF) by Mr. Andrey Kuleshov, Strategy and Development Advisor (virtually).

Ambassador Nduhungirehe was duly briefed about the ongoing reforms that CFC is undergoing to serve the member states better in the days to come. Ambassador Belal elaborated on the elements, what he termed as green recovery in a post pandemic era, to help COVID-19 wrecked small holder and SMEs to get to their feet at the earliest. Ambassador Belal wished to see more working relations and partnership with the countries in the days to come. Appreciating Rwanda’s good standing in the region and some of its hugely successful development projects, Ambassador Belal sought Excellency Nduhungirehe`s help to scale up CFC’s flagship projects in the the agri-commodity sector in the region.

Mr. Andrey Kuleshov, Strategy and Development Advisor briefed the visiting Ambassador on the ongoing activities of the Commodity Impact Investment Facility (CIIF) where CFC would have the opportunity to scale up its experiences using public private partnership as a means for impact investment. Mr Andrew also updated the Ambassador on how the landscape of impact investment is growing to complement the sustainability journey of the humanity. Strategy and Development Adviser also highlighted precedents on how Investors around the world are increasingly making impact investments as their resolve to unleash the power of capital for good.

Before taking leave, Ambassador Nduhungirehe assured that he will do his best to bring good project ideas from his country and the region as well as promoting the idea of impact investment as best as he could.  Ambassador Belal urged Ambassador Nduhungirehe to disseminate the information so that qualified SMEs/enterprises could submit quality projects from Rwanda for consideration by the Executive Board of CFC.

Ambassador Belal assured to pursue more innovative outreach in the days to come to make the services of CFC available to as many people as possible in the commodity dependent developing world, with a heightened sense of innovations and creativity.
