Ambassador of Costa Rica makes virtual introductory call to CFC
Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal is seen with H.E. Mr. Arnoldo Brenes Castro, Ambassador of Costa Rica to the Netherlands discussing their partnership with the CFC virtually. Ambassador Brenes joined from his office in The Hague while Ambassador Belal did the same from his office in Amsterdam. During the discussion, Ambassador Belal briefed Ambassador Brenes on the current as well as probable future initiatives of the CFC. Further, the conversation touched upon the intention to strengthen the region by commodity focused projects. About the ongoing call for proposals by CFC, Ambassador Belal urged for support of the government of Costa Rica to disseminate the information so that qualified SMEs/enterprises could submit quality projects from the Republic of Costa Rica for consideration by the Executive Board of CFC. Ambassador Belal expressed his desire to see further expansion of CFC funding projects in Latin American region so that poverty alleviation sustains despite setbacks after the pandemic of COVID-19. Ambassador Belal further informed on the current work undertaken by CFC towards the establishment of a Commodity Impact Investment Facility (CIIF) to serve member states better and make a larger impact in the developing world and urged Ambassador Brenes to use his influence as the current GRULAC coordinator to get donor countries interested in the CIIF. Ambassador Brenes reiterated his country’s support for CFC and hope that more projects could be considered for implementation in his country. CFC is equally interested to invest in Costa Rica if quality project proposals are submitted during call for proposals. Ambassador Belal also briefed the Costa Rican Ambassador about ongoing activities, based on innovation and creativity, to make CFC better aligned with the hope and aspiration of the member states. Ambassador Brenes was joined in the call by Mr. Alexander Román Araya, Commercial Attaché, and Ambassador Belal by Mr. Peter Nielsen, Project Manager of CFC.
