Yemen to Expand Engagement with CFC

The Hague, 3 March 2026 – Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Managing Director of the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC), held a courtesy meeting with H.E. Ms. Sahar Ghanem, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the Netherlands and Governor of the CFC for Yemen, at the Embassy of Yemen in The Hague.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Yemen and the CFC and exploring avenues for new project proposals that support the country’s agricultural sector and commodity-based livelihoods.

Ambassador Belal highlighted the CFC’s role in assisting member countries through technical expertise, capacity development, and structured financing. He noted that such support can help transform promising project ideas into scalable initiatives that deliver tangible benefits for smallholder farmers and rural communities.

The Managing Director emphasized the importance of collaboration with national institutions and local partners to ensure that proposed projects are locally grounded, well-designed, and capable of generating lasting socio-economic and environmental impact.

H.E. Ms. Sahar Ghanem welcomed the continued engagement of the CFC with its Member States and expressed appreciation for the Fund’s commitment to supporting countries facing complex development challenges. She noted that Yemen is eager to work closely with the CFC to advance initiatives that strengthen agricultural value chains, empower farmers, and improve livelihoods in rural areas.

Both sides agreed to pursue further technical consultations to identify viable project opportunities that promote sustainable agriculture, reinforce food systems, and build resilience within Yemen’s commodity sectors.
