Tanzania reiterates its strong support for CFC
“The contribution of CFC interventions to alleviate poverty in our developing countries is indisputable. Since I assumed my tenure in the Netherlands, I have witnessed CFC’s remarkable and commendable work. Perhaps the most outstanding part of CFC’s work was demonstrated during the last 2 years of COVID-19 pandemic. The degree of innovativeness and resilience of CFC was extraordinary. This resulted in the continued implementation of the CFC mandate even during the pandemic.” H.E. Ms. Irene F.M. Kasyanju, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Netherlands, stated as she made a written statement. Amb. Kasyanju also recalled her earlier visit to CFC and narrated how both her Embassy and CFC worked together towards making some significant achievements.
Ambassador Kasyanju made the above statement when she visited CFC on 23 May 2022 for a farewell courtesy call on Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Managing Director, at the Secretariat of the CFC. H.E. Ms. Irene F.M. Kasyanju registered her country’s appreciation for CFC’s, in her words, “excellent work for Tanzania and the continent”.
Her Excellency was accompanied by Mr. Petro Mahuwi, Trade and Investment Adviser at the Embassy. Ambassador Belal was accompanied by Ms. Michèle Schwarz, Head of Accounting and Administration.
As a commodity dependent country, Tanzania, as stated by Ambassador Kasyanju, takes CFC with utmost importance. Tanzania expressed its readiness to do more for its people as well as for all poor people in the region.
Ambassador Belal, taking cue from COVID-19 lessons and the Ukraine conflict, highlighted the importance of developing resilience to absorb the external shock within the limit of tolerance. Ambassador Belal briefed the Ambassador of Tanzania on the past, present and future planning of the CFC as it seeks to ease commodity dependence in Africa and beyond.
During the discussion, Amb. Kasyanju expressed her country’s support to do more with the CFC to enable the growth of SMEs, increasing employment and income among many Tanzanians, through projects along the commodity value-chain. Amb. Kasyanju further commented on her country’s representation in the CFC’s Executive Board and Consultative Committee. She reiterated her country’s desire to continue the close collaboration with the CFC also under her successor’s tenure.
Ambassador Belal assured to pursue more innovative outreaches in the days to come to make the services of CFC available to as many people as possible in the commodity dependent developing world, with a heightened sense of innovations and creativity.
