CFC Strengthens Ties as Algerian Ambassador Bids Farewell

Amsterdam, 1 April 2026 – The Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) today hosted a farewell call at its CFC office for Her Excellency Ms. Salima Abdelhak, Ambassador of Algeria to the Netherlands and Governor of Algeria to the CFC. Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Managing Director of the CFC, expressed gratitude for Ambassador Abdelhak’s steadfast leadership and her active engagement in advancing the CFC’s mission over the past years.

During the meeting, Ambassador Belal highlighted Ambassador Abdelhak’s consistent commitment to sustainable commodity development and her role in fostering collaboration between Algeria and the CFC. “Her Excellency has always been an active participant in CFC initiatives, contributing valuable insights and promoting sustainable development for the benefit of Algeria and other Member States,” said Ambassador Belal.

Ambassador Abdelhak reflected on her tenure, stating: 

"At a time when my duty as Ambassador of Algeria to the Netherlands and as Governor of Algeria to the CFC is coming to an end, I would like to commend the work of the CFC under your leadership. More than a fund, you have made of it an international sector for sustainable development for the benefit of developing countries. I have witnessed your steadfast commitment during my four years mandate even though the constraints of Covid-19 and the overall situation on the international scene where finance came to be at low level. You have never stopped striving for the CFC to continue contributing to the benefit of our countries. I leave with sufficient knowledge on CFC that I will share with the appropriate institutions in my capital, and I will without any doubt advocate for the CFC and for my country Algeria to be more involved in its activities. I do believe your visit to Algeria will be decisive and will convince you that your contributions to the vision and value of my country will be efficient. Looking forward to welcoming you in Algeria. All the best and keep growing."

The discussion also emphasized future opportunities for collaboration, including technical assistance programs that can support Algeria in enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting value addition, and strengthening smallholder livelihoods. Ambassador Abdelhak extended an invitation to Ambassador Belal to visit Algeria, underscoring the country’s interest in deepening cooperation and exploring new projects that align with national development priorities.

Ambassador Belal concluded the meeting by praising Ambassador Abdelhak’s dedication and vision, noting that her hard work had contributed significantly to the evolution of the CFC as a global platform for sustainable commodity development. He emphasized Algeria’s leadership in promoting peace and, highlighting how this complements efforts to strengthen resilient and inclusive commodity value chains. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing strategies that support local processing, market diversification, and environmentally responsible practices, while connecting smallholders to regional and international markets for sustainable growth.

This farewell marks a celebration of shared achievements and sets the stage for continued collaboration, reflecting the strong and enduring partnership between Algeria and the CFC.
