CFC Strengthens Partnership with Burkina Faso to Empower Smallholder Farmers

Brussels, 23 October 2025 – Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal made a courtesy visit to H.E. Mr. Léopold Tonguenoma Bonkoungou, Ambassador of the Republic of Burkina Faso to the European Mission, the OACPS, the Benelux countries, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Ireland.

During the meeting, Ambassador Belal updated on the CFC’s ongoing initiatives and the rising challenges posed by growing global demand for its services. He highlighted the Fund’s measurable impact on the ground and emphasized the need for collective action to reduce poverty, build resilience, and promote sustainable development in commodity-dependent developing countries.

Ambassador Belal thanked Ambassador Bonkoungou for his active engagement and longstanding support, noting Burkina Faso’s constructive role in advancing the CFC’s mission. He also stressed the opportunity to strengthen agricultural value chains, especially cotton, enabling farmers to gain greater benefits while bolstering national economic resilience.

Ambassador Belal encouraged Ambassador Bonkoungou to actively disseminate information regarding the CFC’s ongoing call for proposals, emphasizing the importance of reaching qualified SMEs and enterprises across Burkina Faso. He highlighted that by sharing these opportunities, local businesses would be well-positioned to develop and submit high-quality projects for careful consideration by the CFC Executive Board, thereby contributing to the Fund’s broader mission of promoting sustainable and inclusive growth within the commodity sector.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both Ambassadors pledging mutual support and agreeing to advance the initiative discussed in due course.
