CFC introduces good manufacturing practices in the Chinese zing sector
A comprehensive report on the “First Use of Zinc in China” has been prepared by the Beijing General Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (BGRIMM) on behalf of the International Lead and Zinc Study Group (ILZSG).

The report contains very useful technical information on the zinc sector in China including the zinc galvanizing activities undertaken by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) in the context of the project “Transfer of Technology and Promotion of Demand: Zinc Batch Hot-Dip Galvanizing” successfully implemented in China during five years from 2005 to 2010. The project addressed the challenge of expanding the markets for zinc and bringing about improvements in production technology. The best practices and technologies introduced by the project focused at enhancing process efficiency, labor safety and environmental sustainability of the hot dip galvanizing industry. Project outcomes (training tools, pre-audit and audit protocols and benchmarks for hot dip galvanizing) have been disseminated throughout China and the neighboring countries. Some ten Chinese Zinc Hot Dip Galvanizing plants signed up on a pay-as-you go basis to benefit from the plant upliftment interventions proposed by the project. This is a good example of the cost efficient good manufacturing practices promoted by CFC and ILZSG in the zinc sector.
