CFC Engages Myanmar to Advance Inclusive and Sustainable Commodity Value Chains

Brussels, 24 October 2025 – Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal visited H.E. Dr. Khin Thidar Aye, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the European Mission and the Benelux countries, on a courtesy call on 24 October 2025.

Ambassador Belal met with Ambassador Aye for the first time to brief Her Excellency on the latest developments at the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) and to discuss future initiatives aimed at fostering inclusive and sustainable growth in the commodity sector. The meeting also served as a platform to identify potential areas for closer collaboration between the CFC and Myanmar.

A central topic of discussion was the CFC’s Humanizing Value Chains (HVC) initiative, which seeks to address systemic inequalities in global trade by promoting transparency, fair income distribution, and inclusive economic growth. Ambassador Belal noted Peru’s recent endorsement of the initiative as an encouraging signal of increasing international momentum to advance equity and dignity for producers worldwide.

Ambassador Aye praised the CFC’s innovative efforts and reiterated Nepal’s dedication to advancing smallholder support through expanded CFC programs, highlighting the country’s strong backing of the Humanizing Value Chains initiative.

The Meeting closed with mutual assurances of support and a shared commitment to undertake the agreed-upon next steps in the days to come.
