CFC and Nepal Explore Support for Smallholders in LDC and Landlocked Developing Countries

Brussels, 24 October 2025 – Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal, CFC’s Managing Director, called on H.E. Ms. Sewa Lamsal, Ambassador of the Nepal to the European Mission and the Benelux countries, during a courtesy visit.

Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal met with Ambassador Lamsal to discuss ongoing and future initiatives of the Fund. The meeting focused on reinforcing partnerships with member countries to bridge the development gap between the Global South and the North.

Ambassador Belal highlighted the urgent need to increase incomes for smallholder communities in the commodity sector, particularly in the Global South, where producers often receive disproportionately low farmgate prices despite their essential contributions. He called on Nepal to support the CFC’s “Humanizing the Value Chains” initiative, aimed at ensuring fairer wealth distribution and prioritizing the well-being of producers.

Ambassador Lamsal commended the CFC’s pioneering work and reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to supporting smallholders through expanded CFC initiatives, emphasizing the country’s endorsement of the Humanizing Value Chains programme. Ambassador Belal also encouraged the dissemination of the CFC’s call for proposals, enabling qualified Nepalese SMEs and enterprises to submit high-quality projects for consideration by the CFC Executive Board.

In closing, both Ambassadors underscored their dedication to strengthening Nepal–CFC collaboration, with an emphasis on supporting smallholders and advancing equitable, resilient value chains.
