CFC and Maldives Discuss Sustainable Commodity Development and Food Security

Brussels, 24 October 2025 – Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal conducted a courtesy visit to H.E. Ms. Geela Ali, Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union.

The meeting provided a first opportunity for Ambassador Belal to meet Ambassador Ali and to brief her on recent developments and future plans of the CFC, while exploring new avenues for collaboration in promoting inclusive and sustainable commodity development.

A key focus of the discussion was the Humanizing Value Chains (HVC) initiative, CFC’s flagship programme addressing structural inequities in global trade through transparency, equitable income distribution, and inclusive growth. Ambassador Belal highlighted Peru’s recent endorsement as a sign of growing international support for advancing fairness and dignity for producers worldwide.

Ambassador Ali welcomed the visit and reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to the CFC’s mandate, commending the Fund’s efforts to promote inclusive and sustainable development. She also expressed interest in receiving CFC’s technical assistance to support food security initiatives in the Maldives and emphasized the country’s ambition to attract innovation and investment to enhance productivity and sustainability in its commodity sectors.

The meeting concluded with both Ambassadors expressing their dedication to supporting smallholders and farmers and agreeing to maintain ongoing dialogue on the matters discussed.
