CFC advances partnerships for sustainable forestry finance at global legal and sustainable timber forum
Macao, 22 September 2026 — The Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) participated in this year’s Global Legal and Sustainable Timber Forum in Macao, engaging with stakeholders across the timber value chain to explore opportunities for sustainable forestry finance and the development of a potential forestry fund.
Representing the CFC, Mr. Wen Yu, Impact Investment Analyst, participated in three sessions of the Forum, including a keynote presentation at the sub-forum on Unlocking Forest Commercial Value: Boosting High-value Timber Utilization via Green Finance, a panel discussion on innovation and resilience in timber value chains, and a closed-door donor meeting with representatives from organizations active in sustainable forestry and timber development.
During his keynote presentation, Mr. Yu introduced the CFC’s operational experience and approach to green finance, highlighting the Fund’s Call for Proposals, its partnerships and mandates, including the FCDO and ACT initiatives, and its range of financing instruments, including trust funds, working capital facilities and term loans.
He also highlighted the CFC’s experience in forestry financing, including its engagement with Miro Forestry, and outlined how innovative financial solutions can support value addition, sustainable forest management and the development of resilient timber value chains.
The Forum brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including SMEs, certification bodies, financial institutions, investors, government representatives and organizations working on sustainable forest management and timber traceability. Discussions focused on how innovation and green finance can help unlock the commercial potential of forest resources while supporting more sustainable and resilient value chains.
The CFC’s engagement also provided an opportunity to strengthen its working relationships with key partners in Macao and beyond, including the Global Green Supply Chain of Forest Products (Macao) Federation, the Global Green Supply Chain (GGSC) and the Macao Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM). Discussions explored concrete steps towards the potential establishment of a forestry fund to support the sustainable growth and development of the timber sector.
Building on the discussions in Macao, the CFC will follow up with key partners to explore areas of collaboration, including opportunities to leverage their extensive networks and expertise in sustainable forestry, timber value chains, certification, traceability and green finance.
Through its engagement in the timber sector, the CFC continues to explore innovative financing approaches that can help mobilize investment, strengthen commodity value chains and support sustainable economic development in commodity-producing countries.
