Capucas, Honduras

Cooperativa Cafetalera Capucas Limited (Capucas) is a Honduras-based coffee cooperative serving 952 smallholder farmer members in the Copán region, an area renowned for producing high-quality Arabica coffee. The cooperative specializes in the specialty coffee market, exporting approximately 60% of its coffee to the US, 30% to the EU, and 10% to other international markets. Capucas caters to consumers who value quality, sustainability, and traceability, offering certified coffee under standards such as Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, and USDA Organic. The cooperative further strengthens transparency using blockchain technology, enabling buyers to trace coffee back to individual producers. 

Capucas manages a fully integrated value chain, providing farmers with technical assistance, certification support, and organic fertilizers produced from coffee-processing by-products. Harvested coffee is transported to modern processing facilities in Santa Rosa de Copán, where advanced equipment, solar drying systems, and quality laboratories ensure compliance with international specialty coffee standards. The cooperative also oversees storage, logistics, and exports, supplying more than 55 buyers worldwide. To support increasing export demand, the CFC provided a USD 1 million trade finance facility, enabling Capucas to finance export contracts and source and process larger volumes of coffee while maintaining quality and traceability standards.
