Commodity Price Volatility and Food Security
Soaring food prices have again brought international attention to the world agricultural production, its risks and resulting limits to economic growth and development, as well as social, economic and political consequences of food markets instability. The Common Fund has prepared a position paper on the topic. The international community is concerned about the rising global impact of expected global events and news on likely production shortfalls or disruption in supplies leading to large price swings.
Additionally, the Fund has commissioned a policy paper looking at commodities in a global context, the role of ICBs and an assessment of CFC within the emerging global commodity and development architecture. The author is Kees Burger, a leading commodity expert at the DEC Wageningen University, Netherlands.
