CFC & UNCTAD Host Special Event on Commodities and LDCs at UN LDC-IV in Istanbul
The Common Fund for Commodities, jointly with UNCTAD's Division on Africa and LDCs, held a Special Event in Istanbul at the 4th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (UN LDC-IV) May 8 on: "Commodity Dependence and the Impact of Multiple Crises on LDCs: Mapping the Exposure to Market Volatility and Building Resilience to Future Crises." The event was attended by policy experts, senior-level representatives from member states [see OUTCOMES REPORT] and a new publication: From Sorghum to Shrimp-A journey through commodity projects was launched. The Common Fund for Commodities, jointly with UNCTAD's Division on Africa and LDCs, will hold a Special Event on "Commodity Dependence and the Impact of Multiple Crises on LDCs: Mapping the Exposure to Market Volatility and Building Resilience to Future Crises." The event takes place from 14:00 to 18:00 on 8 May 2011 at the Hamidiye Hall at the Istanbul Congress Centre, Istanbul, Turkey, prior to the opening of the 4th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-IV).
Following the conclusion of the event, CFC will offer a cocktail reception, where the Royal Tropical Institute of the Netherlands will present a book titled: "From Sorghum to Shrimp: A Journey Through Commodity Projects," based on selected success stories from the CFC project portfolio. CFC has extended an invitation to Member-Countries representatives participating in UN LDC-IV delegations to the special event, which will be the only occasion at the Conference specifically dedicated to the role of commodities in LDC development.
