This is a pilot project which aims to transfer the technology for high pressure copper die casting to developing countries through the establishment of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in India for conducting pilot die casting trials and for demonstration of the process to interested manufacturers. Other member countries of the Common Fund and the International Copper Study Group benefit through on site technology dissemination. Technology is transferred mainly to manufacturers of rotors, motors and motor systems. Energy efficient motors with copper die-cast rotors result in better engine performance (lower operating temperature, increased insulation life and hence better reliability). The project made very satisfactory progress and was completed in 2011.
