The project aims to improve the productivity of rice in inland valleys under different types of agro-ecological conditions in West Africa. Rice yields are expected to rise by about 50% as a result of the application of the productivity enhancement packages developed under the project. The project includes the following actions: a) Development of a rice production technological package to be screened and tested under different agro-ecological conditions; b) Evaluation of the results of technology tests and definition of technological packages for farm trials; c) Farm trials and refinement of production packages; and, d) Evaluation of the sustainability of the proposed action. Smallholder farmers in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria have received technical assistance to perform farm trials of the proposed technology packages. The results of the trials will be disseminated across the farming community in the region.
