Promotion of Copper Use (ICSG/01)

Additional benefitting countries:

Regional dissemination workshops held in Asia, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe

Project completed in 2011

The central objective of the project was to increase the demand for copper so as to foster a balance in supply and demand, lend stability to copper prices and enhance employment in copper mining and smelting in developing countries. The means to achieve this was the promotion of energy-efficient, copper-intensive products, improving their industrial competitiveness through reduced operating cost of transformers and electrical motors. This would also positively impact on the environment by reducing pollution. The project was located in two key emerging markets of the developing world, India and China, which are characterised by a strong growth for such products.
