This project aims at developing methods and strategies for the management of humid tropical forests, taking South Cameroon as an example, for the purpose of the sustainable production of timber and other products and services. It is being executed with participation of the Tropenbos Foundation (Netherlands). The project undertakes a detailed description of present logging and agricultural practices and their impact on vegetation and soil and develops an ecologically sound and efficient logging system for the moist tropical forests of Cameroon. To this end, the project prepared, inter alia, a forest and land inventory map of concessions and their surroundings, including thematic maps of physical and biotic aspects and land use and interpretative maps on multi-purpose land evaluation (timber stock per species and size, biodiversity, erosion hazards, forestry, and agro-forestry land use alternatives, etc.), and more detailed maps of representative sample areas.
